Building value in business has become almost totally dependent on our ability to align and engage people’s knowledge and know-how.
As a leader, having set the direction for your business you then need to get more of your people doing more of the right things to support the direction, more of the time. Whether building superior relationships with customers, inventing new, great products and services, beating the competition or building more value for shareholders – it all depends on what people do.
Unlike machines, people don’t do as they are told and usually don’t behave in predictable ways. There’s no easy answer. The only certainty is that, if you want to engage and align your people – it depends on you – what you do and how you choose to behave.
